For Good Hope was founded by Claudia Menezes, an Occupational Therapist based in the KwaZulu-Natal Midlands.

After my studies, I completed my Community Service year in rural KZN. It was there that I saw first-hand how many people, particularly people living with disabilities, face unnecessary barriers to independence simply because they did not have access to the right equipment or accessible environments.
That experience continues to shape everything I do. I started For Good Hope because I believe that everyone deserves the opportunity to participate as independently as possible in everyday life. Whether it’s through an assistive device that makes dressing easier, a classroom that is accessible to every learner, or a workplace that removes unnecessary barriers; my focus has always been to help people engage more fully in the activities that matter to them.
Today, For Good Hope brings together my passion for Assistive Devices, Accessibility, and Universal Design to provide practical, affordable solutions throughout South Africa. I believe that everyone has the right to affordable products, equipment and environments that support independence, dignity, participation and inclusion.
Our Beliefs
Everything we do at For Good Hope is guided by three values.
Independence – Creating practical solutions that help people participate more confidently in everyday life.
Accessibility – Promoting accessible and supportive products and environments so that more people can access, use and enjoy them.
Inclusion – Designing with people of different ages, abilities, needs and lived experiences in mind.
Assistive Devices
I firmly believe that one of the most amazing and unique aspects of Occupational Therapy are Assistive Devices; and therapy wouldn’t be complete without considering whether a client would benefit from one. Assistive Devices can successfully provide a balance between optimising and making the most of the abilities that the client already possesses, whilst maximising their independence; and ultimately their quality of life.
After working in the UK, I realised how Assistive Devices play a major role in therapy and caregiving; more so than in South Africa – definitely first world! I struggled to find Assistive Devices in South Africa; and when I did they were imported from companies based overseas. This results in them being very overpriced due to our unfavourable exchange rate, taxes, air freight, import duty, courier charges etc. These obstacles limit the accessibility and availability to most South Africans.
For Good Hope strives to change that!

We source all raw materials locally, from South African businesses and factories; and we manufacture products either in our in-house studio or in various factories in KZN, depending on the machinery needed. Whilst not compromising on the quality of the product, we strive to source the cheapest raw materials as possible in order to keep the products affordable. Through these efforts, we hope that we can solve the barriers that we have faced with purchasing Assistive Devices in the past. Our products are designed with the realities of South African homes, schools and healthcare settings in mind – within our SA context, for our SA context.
Our goal at For Good Hope is to provide therapists, schools, teachers, parents, and people with disabilities with high-quality, individualised and affordable equipment, assistive devices and more. Through our products, we help those with disabilities to reach their full potential and to live comfortably and as independently as possible; often through the provision of an adaptable and supportable environment as well.

A cactus symbolises endurance; the fact that it has adapted in harsh conditions and conquered. As health practitioners or individuals living with a disability, we too have to adapt and conquer. We have to endure and thrive in harsh conditions, and stay determined to life itself.
We love creating products and seeing them making a difference in individuals’ lives and their independence; whilst adding value to ones’ purpose. Have a look at our Shop for our range of products.
Accessibility Consulting
As For Good Hope has grown, so has my work.
Alongside designing and manufacturing assistive devices, we are now starting to offer Accessibility Consulting to help create environments that are accessible, inclusive and practical for everyone.
My goal is to identify barriers and provide realistic, evidence-informed recommendations that improve independence, participation and inclusion through the use of South African Building Standards and Universal Design principles.
Accessibility isn’t only about compliance – it’s about creating environments that work for people of all ages and abilities.
