Features

  • The One -Handed Hair Tie consists of a long elastic and a toggle.
  • The toggle creates a sliding loop that goes over the head.
  • On the other end, there is another loop which is used to grip onto, what we refer to as, an “anchor”. This assists in creating the required tension to form the ponytail.
  • The following can be used as an “anchor”: a prosthesis, a door handle, residual limbs, a paralysed arm, toes/ feet, casts and splints or parts of wheelchairs.
  • The Hair Tie stays comfortably in the hair for the duration of the day, as long as it is pulled tight
  • Each One-Handed Hair Tie is individually packaged with instructions for the user.

Sizing

The One-Handed Hair Tie comes in one size. Once the user has determined which method works best; they may wish to trim the elastic shorter. Instructions for this will be included with the parcel.

How do I know if it will work for me?

There are several methods of using the One-Handed Hair Tie to suit different abilities. The different methods also depend on the availability and effectiveness of different “anchors” for different users. Generally, the user will be required to:

  • Be able to put a headband on
  • Be able to reach the back of the head with one upper limb (to guide the ponytail into the desired position, and to wrap the end of the elastic around the ponytail)
  • Have adequate muscle strength in one upper limb to pull the elastic tight
